Mineworker convicted of rape and murder

A Soweto man was on Monday convicted for killing his three teenage neighbours and a colleague at work.

Judge Mmonoa Teffo‚ in the South Gauteng High Court sitting in Palm Ridge‚ convicted Thapelo Motseki‚ 32‚ for his killing spree‚ which lasted over a year.

Motseki was found guilty on four counts of murder‚ three of kidnapping‚ two of rape and one count of attempted rape.

Motseki began his killing spree on April 30 2013 in Seraleng in Rustenburg when he kidnapped and killed Emerencia Botshelo Kgakatsi‚ 17‚ whose body was found the following day a short distance from where Motseki was staying.

On August 4 2013 he kidnapped‚ raped and murdered Lungile Kubheka‚ 15‚ who was on her way to buy airtime in Snake Park. Motseki claimed Lungile was his girlfriend and claimed they had consensual sex the night she was last seen alive.

A week later‚ Motseki raped and killed his colleague Cinthiah Anikie Setuke at Aquarius Platinum Mine in Rustenburg. Motseki disappeared from his workstation and later returned with fresh wounds on his body minutes before Setuke’s half naked body was found by colleagues.

In May 2014‚ Motseki kidnapped‚ raped and killed Thembelihle Dlamini‚ 16‚ in Snake Park‚ Soweto.
