The ANC in the Western Cape told disgruntled members to stay off Facebook in the aftermath of a fallout over its troubled leadership.
"Desist!" said acting chairperson in the province, Khaya Magaxa, after Marius Fransman took to Facebook to complain about the way he was being treated while a sexual assault charge laid against him was being investigated.
Fransman was the chairperson of the party in the province when a woman accused him of sexual assault on the way to the ANC's anniversary celebration in Rustenburg in January.
The party said he had been asked to step aside while its integrity committee and law enforcement officials dealt with the complaint, but Fransman posted on Facebook that this was not true.
He said he only learnt about his temporary removal in the media.
He complained that the ANC had treated him differently to fellow provincial executive committee member, Andile Lili, who was convicted of contravening the Civil Aviation Act when he dumped poo inside a terminal at the Cape Town International Airport.
According to a previous report by EWN, Lili also claimed that an ANC spokesperson Jabu Mfusi had it in for him and was on Fransman's side.
Don't splash problems on Facebook
Magaxa said that if any ANC member had a problem they should take it straight to the party and discuss it, and not splash it all over Facebook.
He was speaking at a press conference to announce that two national executive council members had been brought in to the provincial office to deal with the fallout out from the Fransman controversy and the suspension of provincial secretary, Faiez Jacobs, for allegedly hitting a colleague.
The party is pulling out the stops to get itself election ready to win back the only province it does not have a majority in.
Sue van der Merwe and Dipuo Letsatse-Duba would help rebuild the provincial office and had the power to override the acting person if need be, announced ANC official, Derek Hanekom, who is also the minister of tourism.
Western Cape Premier Helen Zille caught a whiff of the turmoil and milked it during her reply to the State of the Province address.
Earlier this week in the legislature she taunted the ANC caucus with: "Where's Marius?" as Magaxa took over as leader of the opposition.
"Whatever I say today can't do them nearly as much harm as they are doing to themselves," she crowed on Thursday.
