A police officer and four alleged accomplices who were caught last Thursday with about R3 million in fake bank notes in their possession will appear in the Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court in Lebowakgomo in Limpopo on January 20 for a bail application hearing.

Winners Mashaba‚ a 29-year-old constable stationed at Namakgale Crime Prevention‚ Mmola Ngoako (30)‚ Ntshepeng Steve Segage (31)‚ and two women‚ Vuyisa Sobuswa (50) and Xoliswa Nkabi (41)‚ were travelling by car in Lebowakgomo

when they were stopped by police.

According to Hawks spokesman Lieutenant Robert Netshiunda‚ police had received a tip-off that the five suspects had counterfeit money in their possession.

“Upon searching the suspects a schoolbag containing R3 million in counterfeit R100 notes was found with one of the female suspects who quickly confessed that the money belonged to all of them as they were on their way to share their loot‚” Lt Netshiunda said.

The suspects were arrested and were remanded in custody after a brief court appearance on Monday.

Lt Netshiunda added that an internal disciplinary process against Mashaba would commence in due course.
