Chief traffic officer nailed for corruption

The Hawks have arrested Wolmaransstad’s chief traffic officer on charges of fraud and corruption‚ police said in a statement.

Windy Judas Mahlangu‚ 46‚ appeared in the Wolmaransstad Magistrate’s Court on Friday and was remanded in custody.

Mahlangu is alleged to have defrauded the Maquassi-Hill municipality‚ North West‚ of R540 000 in unpaid licences and traffic fines.

He allegedly issued “fraudulent licence discs” for 39 trucks owned by Kobus Jordaan and ensured that his accomplice did not pay traffic fines.

Jordaan‚ 49‚ was arrested but released on R500 bail because he is ill.

The two men will appear in court on Wednesday‚ 23 September.
