A bank employee who was responsible for loading money into the ATMs has been arrested for theft by the Hawks in Groblersdal.

The 30-year-old suspect’s modus operandi was to load half of the cash and keep the rest for himself‚ replacing the other half with fake bank notes‚ Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said in a statement.

“The bank eventually discovered his shenanigans after he had already stolen an amount of R2 217 260.00 and the suspect had been on the run until his arrest (today‚ Tuesday) by the Anti-Corruption Unit of the Hawks in conjunction with Groblersdal police.”

He will appear before the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court soon.
