Dj Sbu no longer with Metro FM

Controversial Sbusiso Leope, known as Dj Sbu is no longer with Metro FM.

SABC has confirmed that his contract will not be renegotiated when it comes to an end today.

“He won’t be on Metro FM come Wednesday when the new DJ line-up is announced,” said SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago.

Dj Sbu hosted a popular Saturday show called ‘Sound Revival’ which aired between 12 and 3pm.

Kganyago said that he could not disclose the details around Dj Sbu’s contract not being renewed although Sunday World reported that the reasons were linked to him advertising his energy drink at the station’s awards show without approval.

“That is a private contract matter between an employee and an employer,” Kganyago said.

Asked about the possibility of losing audience members that were hooked to Dj Sbu’s show, Kganyago said that Metro FM has made a decision to not renegotiate the contract and they will deal with whatever consequences that come with the decision.

“It is a decision we have taken and we will have to live with it and face whatever consequences that comes with it. He is not the first person whose contract was not renegotiated and he is not the only DJ at Metro.

“There was a time when he wasn’t working at Metro and the station was still moving. Some people leave because of other reasons, some people die and leave the station,” he explained.

Dj Sbu’s contract was nearing its end when he was suspended following the Metro FM awards where he promoted his energy drink against the rules and regulations they were given prior to the event.

Although not confirmed, Sunday World reported that Lerato Kganyago will be the new addition to the Dj line-up and that she will be taking over the ‘Sound Revival’ slot on Saturdays.
