Twenty injured in Hammanskraal

Twenty people, including a baby, were injured when a taxi overturned on the N1 highway at Hammanskraal, Gauteng, paramedics said on Friday.

"Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the commuters had been ejected from the vehicle as it was rolling down the roadway; the highway was covered for several metres with accident debris and luggage," said Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha.

An 18-month-old baby had to be placed on a ventilator before being airlifted to a hospital, he said.

The accident happened around 7.30pm on Thursday evening.

The other 19 people were transported to various hospitals in the area for medical treatment.
