Court to hear district six land dispute

The Western Cape High Court will hear a case on Thursday against a group of people who allegedly illegally occupied houses in District Six, Cape Town.

The rural development and land reform department said the group claimed to be the original land claimants of the land and occupied 15 houses on Saturday. Department officials tried, but failed to evict them.

On Monday, the group approached the court which granted it an interim order to evict the occupants.

They were given until Tuesday morning to vacate the premises. It was unclear whether all the occupants adhered to the order.

The department and the group will present their cases on Thursday.
