Cops are framing me - alleged serial rapist

'NOT ME': Tiisetso Matabane
'NOT ME': Tiisetso Matabane

AN ALLEGED serial rapist yesterday accused the police of "framing" him for the crimes.

Tiisetso Ephraim Spandeel Matabane told the Bloemfontein High Court that the police had informed him they would ensure he was arrested for many counts of rape.

He also claimed that his DNA, which was found on the victims, was "planted" by the police. "I know nothing about those crimes. I didn't rape anyone," he said.

Matabane, 27, said soon after his arrest his blood was taken on three separate occasions.

"... The police and nurses at the hospital told me they were conducting HIV tests. They never explained that they were taking samples for forensic examinations," he said.

"I plead with this court for other DNA tests to be conducted to prove that I didn't rape anyone."

Matabane claimed that one of the victims was his girlfriend and that he only slept with her once - using a condom.

He is facing nine counts of rape, five of housebreaking, three of theft and two of robbery. He has pleaded not guilty.

The trial continues.
