Drug bust couple in court

A Nigerian man and his Malawian girlfriend appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court following a R1.2 million drug bust, the Hawks said.

The man, 37, and the 23-year-old woman had their case postponed to Friday, when they would apply for bail, Captain Paul Ramaloko said in a statement.

They were arrested on Thursday after police found a laboratory in a house in Brackendowns, Alberton, used to manufacture the drug cat (methcathinone). Chemicals, drugs and equipment worth about R1.2 million were confiscated.

The laboratory was found after a policeman who lived in the area noticed a strange smell coming from the house.
