Tragedy for council as hubby shoots wife, self

THE Mogale City local municipality is reeling in shock following the death of two of its employees

It appears that Pheelo Shimmy Ramafikeng, 39, shot his wife Koketso, 28, at about 5.25am on Saturday morning at their home in Hospital View, Kagiso.

Lieutenant-Colonel Melica Bezuidenhout said a murder docket had been opened and a suicide case was being investigated.

Pheelo was a Batho Pele practitioner in the municipal manager's office and also the municipality's public liaison officer at the premier's hotline forum.

Koketso had recently started work as a satellite clerk in the credit department.

It is unclear what led to the incident, but it has been said that the two had an argument before Pheelo shot his wife and turned the gun on himself.

Municipality spokesman Nkosana Zali said they would wait for the police to conclude their investigation.

"Whatever else anyone says outside these processes is mere speculation and the municipality will not speculate on what led to the tragedy," Zali said.

The couple will be buried at Sterkfontein Cemetery on Saturday.
