Gold Fields suspends all KDC output due to strike

Bullion producer Gold Fields has suspended all output at its KDC operations in South Africa after 8,500 more workers had joined an illegal strike

“Production at the entire KDC has now been suspended,” the company said in a statement on Monday.

KDC includes the KDC West and East mines.

Around 19,500 of the operation’s total workforce of around 26,700 are now part of the wildcat strike, Gold Fields added.

Meanwhile, Harmony Gold says it is losing between 20-25 kg of gold production a day due to a wildcat strike at its Kusasalethu mine.

“All the other mines are still operating as normal so we just need to resolve Kusasalethu,” spokeswoman Henrika Basterfield said.

There are 5,400 people on strike at the mine, she added.
