ANC growing 'impatient'

GAUTENG ANC secretary David Makhura says the party has grown impatient with under-performing cadres deployed to the province's municipalities.

Briefing the media in Midrand on the sidelines of a meeting between the provincial ANC leadership and mayors, chief whips and speakers of councils, Makhura said the party would take action against municipal leaders under whose stewardship local councils had failed.

This week's meeting and the harsh words coming from it was in response to Auditor-General Terrence Nombembe's report, which showed that the province's municipalities had performed woefully during the 2011/2012 financial year.

Only 13 of the country's municipalities obtained clean audits.

None of Gauteng's municipalities, including its three metros - Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni - received clean audits.
