RDP clarification

ALTHOUGH we reported this week that the construction company awarded a tender to build 731 RDP houses in Taung, North West built only one unit, the Department of Human Settlements says 371 units have been completed.

"The company [MD3 Developers] did complete the construction of 371 houses in Ward 13 at Ba Ga Maidi, and provided and supplied the services required. However, the company only completed one house in Ward 5 at Ba Ga Phuduhucwana and also failed to provide the services required," department spokesman Xolani Xundu said.

MD3 was contracted to build "low-income" houses in Ba Ga Phuduhucwana and Ba Ga Maidi for more than R16-million.

The company's directors, Janice Mendes, 42, and Machiel Marais, 47, are out on R1000 and R5000 bail respectively. - Sibongile Mashaba
