Youths in court for burning girls

SIX youths accused of setting two girls alight in an alleged satanic ritual will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court again on February 2.

Prosecutor Colleen Ryan said the matter was postponed yesterday because "a certain aspect needs to be seen before they can be indicted".

Proceedings were held in camera as one of the accused, a 15-year-old girl, is a minor.

On October 21 Kirsty Theologo, 18, was doused with petrol and set alight on a koppie in Linmeyer, Johannesburg.

She died at Chris Hani-Baragwanath Academic Hospital a week later.

Her 14-year-old friend was also burned, but survived. She underwent skin grafts for her burns.

The five other accused remain in custody. They were denied bail in November.
