ANCYL is unshaken, says Magaqa

THE ANC Youth League says it is outraged by the ANC national disciplinary committee's ruling on the youth wing's leaders.

ANCYL secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa accused the ANC NDC of unfairly meting out sanctions without affording accused league members a chance to present mitigating factors.

"This is one of the basic and primary right which is afforded to any person who is charged in any forum," said Magaqa.

"Even the most hardened of criminals enjoy this basic right. While the ANCYL NEC is still to consider the rulings, this procedural lapse alone is a good ground of appeal."

He said the league would hold an urgent national executive meeting to discuss the outcomes of the case.

"As disciplined members of the ANC we are duty bound to respect internal organisational processes and our NEC will guide on how to handle the matter from henceforth."

He said the disciplinary hearing was largely motivated by intentions to crash the league's economic freedom campaign.

"The ANCYL has never had any illusion that its radical call for economic freedom in our lifetime will be smooth," he said.

"We continue to support our leadership."
