Pupils barred from exams

CONTROVERSY is mounting at the beleaguered Giyani College of Technology in Limpopo, where almost 150 Grade 12 pupils were barred from writing the matric exams.

The Limpopo department of education yesterday announced that the school had not registered its pupils to write the exams.

Department head Morebudi Thamaga advised the parents to lay a charge of fraud and corruption against the school.

This was after a week-long investigation revealed that school principal Linkon Sambo and his deputy, Dennis Maluleke, resigned a few weeks before the beginning of the examinations.

Thamaga said the investigation had also revealed that the pupils were only asked to sign the registration forms on October 17.

According to Thamaga registration forms should have been submitted on or before March 15.

MEC for education Dickson Masemola said they were weighing their options to close the school because it was not operating in line with examination regulations.

School owner Oscar Maswanganyi apologised and promised to refund the pupils' school fees.
