A man will appear in the Senekal Magistrate’s Court, in the Free State, on Monday in connection with the murder of a three-year-old boy, police said.
The 23-year-old man was arrested on Friday morning, shortly after he allegedly attacked his neighbour’s child with a panga, Captain Phumelelo Dhlamini said.
He said the child had been playing in the yard of the man’s home in Matwabeng township, Senekal.
“The man just stood on the scene after committing the crime and refused to answer any questions to the police. He appeared to be a normal person with no mental condition.”
The boy died on arrival at the local hospital.
The motive for the crime was not immediately clear, Dhlamini said.
