Taxi drivers assault traffic cop

So now they face a lot of charges

Two minibus taxi drivers were arrested for assaulting a traffic officer in central Cape Town, the city said on Friday.

“A city traffic officer was in the process of arresting a taxi driver for operating contrary to the conditions of his permit, when  the driver struck him in the face,” according to a statement issued  by the City of Cape Town.

After the driver was arrested, another taxi driver allegedly threatened the officer and his colleague, and attempted to forcefully free his handcuffed friend.

He was also arrested.    

One of the officers sustained “slight” injuries, the statement said.

The arrested pair face charges of assault, intimidation, resisting arrest and operating contrary to permit conditions.
