Free State pupils get uniforms

IN an effort to help the needy and the poor, particularly in rural areas, Alah-Yen Foundation in partnership with Statistics SA Free State successfully handed over 150 school uniforms and shoes to pupils of Arbeid Primary School in Bloemspruit (Alriechfield) just outside Bloemfontein this week.

Alah-Yen Foundation, a non-profit organisation based in Mangaung, Bloemfontein, earlier this year embarked on a campaign to collect 10,000 school shoes and uniform for the disadvantaged communities in the Mangaung Metro in Free State.

The campaign was termed "Save the Child Campaign".

This initiative was aimed at primary school pupils who are either orphans or disadvantaged.

Chairperson of Allah Yen Foundation, Lehlohonolo Mokoena, said though they had hoped to acquire about 10000 shoes and uniforms, they only received about 3000 in total from various stakeholders that included businesses, government and the community.

Mokoena said: "We have seen in our communities a number of pupils going to school without shoes and this has become a concern.

"We then decided to do something about it hence we initiated this campaign."
