Taxi driver dies in crash

A TAXI driver died when his taxi and a bakkie collided at Khayelitsha in Western Cape yesterday morning, ER24 said.

The collision involved a minibus taxi with only one occupant and a bakkie with two occupants, spokesperson André Visser said.

"It seems that the minibus taxi had overturned in the collision, partially ejecting the driver before landing on him."

Paramedics, the local fire department and provincial emergency services attempted to free the taxi driver from under the vehicle, but he had sustained severe injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

The passenger in the bakkie escaped uninjured and the driver suffered injuries to his head and chest, Visser said.

Both men were treated and stabilised before being taken to hospital.

Police would investigate the cause of the accident, Visser said.
