Good rains improve water supply

THE water supply in the Eastern Cape's Nelson Mandela Bay municipality improved in the past two months because of good rainfall, an official said yesterday.

"All dams (are) full as Impofu joins the list and starts overflowing," said Port Elizabeth's infrastructure portfolio committee chairperson, Andile Mfunda.

"The Impofu Dam became the last to overflow last weekend, and this has seen the major dams supplying Nelson Mandela Bay reach a combined average capacity of 100%."

The committee was happy with the supply, but acknowledged it needed to continue investing in projects that would increase long-term supply.
