Shenge's warning

THE IFP does not deploy individuals to public office as reward for their loyalty, party president Mangosuthu Buthelezi said yesterday.

"We do not simply deploy reliable cadres to local government to feed our hunger for power or advance our business interests through access to tenders," he said.

Buthelezi was addressing scores of residents from Usuthu-eMahhashi during the Integrated Development Plan of Nongoma municipality.

He said his party appointed people to positions solely on the basis of their abilities.

"Our deployment policy relies on the integrity of the deployee, whom we expect to share our good intentions," Buthelezi said.

"While the majority of our councillors and mayors have honoured the trust we place in them, there have been an exception.

"Sometime even the best intentions can go wrong when those in charge are led astray by their own ambitions.

"Such was the case of the previous district mayor Zanele Magwaza-Msibi, who had been deployed to this important position because we genuinely believed her declared commitment to improving the plight of the local people."

Buthelezi said Magwaza-Msibi spent days in the district building a personal support base to further her personal agenda.

"She always emphasised that she was sent by me. She is now singing a different tune," he said.

Buthelezi applauded Magwaza-Msibi's successor Blessed Gwala for improving the lives of the community in the district.

He said people of Zululand could put their trust in the IFP leadership to change their lives for the better.

Buthelezi also warned people in the area not to be misled by politicians from other parties.

"Especially towards the elections, both national and provincial government representatives start running to local municipal areas to give the impression that their particular parties are doing more for the people than the party that is in charge at local level," he said.

"The money is allocated by the state for service delivery and it is not money for the political party.

"Many people are fooled by their tricks."
