Cops kill escapee

KWAZULU-NATAL police have arrested four of the eight awaiting-trial prisoners who escaped from the Esikhawini police cells last week.

Last Wednesday at about 8.30pm two police officers were inspecting the cells when they were overpowered by eight prisoners who took their firearms and cash before fleeing on foot.

The prisoners were Siboniso Mdletshe, 28, Sibusiso Zulu, 21, Nduduzo Mnguni, 29, Boy Mlungwana, 31, Bheki Mazibuko, 19, Sibusiso Mnguni, 24, Sthembiso Mdletshe, 25, and Sibonelo Mpanza, 29, who was shot dead during a shoot-out with the police.

They were held on various charges, including murder, rape and attempted murder.

They are expected to appear in the Esikhawini magistrate's court today.
