Dragnet out for hijack killers

POLICE have launched a manhunt for the suspects who shot dead a matric pupil during a hijacking outside his home in Ashley, Pinetown.

The 18-year-old pupil's older brother was wounded during the highjacking on Wednesday night.

The police said the older brother had been talking to a friend outside their house at about 9pm when they were approached by four armed men.

They demanded the car keys, then shot the man in the leg.

The younger brother ran out of the house and was shot. He died soon afterwards.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Vincent Mdunge said the attackers escaped in the hijacked car.

"There have not been any arrests yet. The suspects fled in an unknown direction.

"A case of car-jacking has since been opened. We are investigating a case of murder, attempted murder and car-jacking," Mdunge said.

ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said when paramedics arrived at the scene, they found both brothers lying near the front door of the house.

"One, unfortunately, had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and the other a gunshot wound to the leg. He was treated and transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

"His brother, who was a twin and doing matric, was declared dead on the scene," Banks said.
