jackson, Sapula jobless
VETERAN midfielder Godfrey Sapula and defender Willem Jackson will have to seek employment elsewhere because Platinum Stars is not renewing their contracts.
Team manager Obed Legobate confirmed the developments yesterday, adding that Lefa Mogaila's contract will also not be renewed.
"We are not going to renew the contracts of these players when they expire (today)," Legobate said.
"This is part of the restructuring at the club and we are going to make an announcement about new players next week. We thank Godfrey, Willem and Lefa for what they did for the club and we wish them the best of luck wherever they go."
Elsewhere, Thabo September is likely to leave three-time Absa Premiership champions SuperSport United.
The club has stalled on talks for a new contract, fuelling speculation that the defender might not be retained for the new season. September's contract expires today.
Jomo Cosmos have placed former Black Leopards midfielder Thabiso Hlalele on the transfer list.
Meanwhile, Vasco da Gama's head coach Carlos das Neves says he will continue coaching the Premiership upstarts on a part-time basis next season.
Das Neves, who is permanently employed as a chartered accountant in Cape Town, said the club will continue to train once a day, as they did while campaigning in the National First Division.
"I do not think that my work will have a negative impact on the club. Even SuperSport United are training once a day in the morning but still managed to win the league title three times.
"The players will go to the gymnasium in the morning and we will train from 4pm," said the former Hellenic midfielder.
"Changes to our training sessions will also depend on our friendly and league matches.
"Only time will tell when I will coach on a full-time basis.
"Only four players will have to make a decision on whether they continue with their different jobs or join football permanently," Das Neves said.
The affected players are defender Zeka Karkee, striker Anthony Moniz, midfielder Keenin Lesch and goalkeeper Jason Barnard.
