Botswana mere practice for Under-17s

SOUTH Africa's Under-17 women's team will play their second World Cup qualifying match against Botswana at the Herman Immelman Stadium in Germiston tomorrow.

The match kicks off at 2pm, and Solly Luvhengo's troops will surely view this as a practice match - with all due respect to our neighbours - since Bantwana won the first leg at Gaborone Stadium by a massive 9-1 scoreline.

But more ominously for South Africa, it is Nigeria who once again stand between them and the world stage. The finals of this competition take place in Trinidad and Tobago in September.

Team manager Fran Hilton-Smith said: "The preparations have been going well, but we have concentrated on our next match tactics-wise and so on as you know who we are up against."

l Concacaf completed its qualification slots, with Canada and Mexico booking their places in Trinidad and Tobago, while powerhouse United States were shockingly booted out after a 5-3 loss on penalty kicks to the Canadians in the semifinals.

Mexico made it to their first Under-17 women's World Cup.
