AFTER the successful delivery of 2010 Fifa World Cup match and training venues, pressure is on the Local Organising Committee to fill the stadiums.

The LOC has urged South Africans to contribute to the success of the historic soccer spectacle by applying for team-specific tickets for the six African teams.

Besides Bafana Bafana, the other teams that will hoist the African flag during the World Cup are Ghana, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Algeria.

LOC chairperson Irvin Khoza said they would pull out all the stops to ensure that the 44 million-plus citizens of South Africa contribute to the success of the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

"We want to see more applications for the African teams in the World Cup, we call on our people to support the African teams," Khoza said.

"That will also be in line with the pledge we made when we were bidding that it will be an African World Cup. We want to see African teams getting good crowds.

"We know the majority of top players in the world are from Africa, big names like Emmanuel Adebayor, Michael Essien, Didier Drogba, Steven Pienaar, Nwankwo Kanu."

Khoza is also confident Bafana Bafana - who were supported by the PSL ending the current season in February - will do well, urging South Africans to rally behind the team.
