BRAZILIAN Igor Alves earned Moroka Swallows a 2-1 win over Jomo Cosmos at Rand Stadium on Saturday night.

BRAZILIAN Igor Alves earned Moroka Swallows a 2-1 win over Jomo Cosmos at Rand Stadium on Saturday night.

Both sides were 1-1 level at half time. The wining goal came through deflection.

Larry Cohen, in an attempt to Alves' shot, deflected the ball into his own net late into injury time.

Cosmos were the busier and better from kick off. Sekou Camara broke the deadlock in the 12th minute. But credit goes to referee Peter Mabuza who played advantage before the goal.

He allowed play to continue after Swallows defender Ashraf Hendricks had fouled Siza Dlamini.

Dlamini got the ball and fed Camara who fired home past keeper Greg Etafia.

But Swallows' pressure was too much for Ezenkosi. Rising star Sibusiso Khumalo shot into the far corner in the 38th minute to make it 1-1.

Then with the match heading for a draw, Alves' shot took a deflection and the rest is history.

But Cosmos were the better side. Even Swallows coach Rainer Zobel was not at all impressed with his side's performance. He described their victory as being sheer luck.

In Rustenburg also on Saturday, Platinum Stars confirmed Bidvest Wits' recent slump when they taught the Students a lesson with a 3-1 defeat at Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Henrico Botes was the Tycoons' hero on the day after netting a brace much to the excitement of the home supporters.

Colombian forward Renteria scored the other goal for Steve Komphela's side.

Sibusiso Vilakazi scored for Wits who are now pulling hard after an excellent start to the campaign.
