Jomo takes aim at Ajax

JOMO COSMOS owner-coach Jomo Sono remains confident that his struggling side will soon turn the corner and start collecting maximum points, starting against Ajax Cape Town tomorrow night.

Cosmos suffered a crushing 3-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday and play hosts to the Urban Warriors at Rand Stadium. Sono said nothing but a win will do Ezenkosi good in their quest to start moving away from the relegation zone.

Cosmos come up against an Ajax side also desperate for a win, despite being third on the log, after dropping two valuable points at home in a goalless draw with Lamontville Golden Arrows, the team that hammered them 6-0 in the final of the MTN8 Cup in Soweto a fortnight ago.

"We were without five of our regular players against Sundowns but I'm happy that some of them like Thabiso Hlalele and Diarra Gacoussou will be back for our match against Ajax. We are obviously looking to turn the corner and hopefully we'll start on Wednesday (tomorrow) against Ajax," said Sono yesterday.

Though many soccer fans have already condemned Cosmos to relegation, Sono insisted they will still be campaigning in the top flight next season.

He also said he has given special attention to his leaky defence, which conceded an astonishing six goals in their past two games.

"We had a chat with the players and they realise that we cannot go on conceding like this and we must improve. I think our goalkeeper (Avril Phali) was brilliant against Sundowns and should have been voted man of the match," Sono said.

Ajax Cape Town, on the other hand, will look to consolidate their position on the log and put the MTN8 nightmare behind them by adding to Cosmos's misery.

Assistant coach Wilfred "Silver Fox" Mugeyi said they are going to Rand Stadium for maximum points.

"We are going for broke because we need maximum points to keep up with SuperSport United and Santos. "We are challenging for honours this season and we need to put that embarrassing defeat to Arrows behind us," Mugeyi said.

Thulani Serero, George Maluleke and Franklin Cale could prove a handful for the hosts. Bamuza Sono should be Ezenkosi's trump card.
