THE South African Black Entrepreneurs Forum and First National Commercial Bank will hold entrepreneurship development events in Johannesburg this month, writes Victor Mecoamere.

The group's emergent business talent development tool, the Business Leadership Club, will launch the Global Entrepreneurship Development Programme at the FNB Training Centre in Sandton on November 17.

This will be followed by the Soweto SMME Funding and Enterprise Development Convention 2009 at Uncle Tom's Community Centre in Orlando West, Soweto, on November 21.

One of the features is the pitching chamber where entrepreneurs will pitch ideas to funders and judges. They stand a chance to win prizes valued at R50000 to kick-start their businesses and expose them to opportunities for further funding by funders that will be present at the chamber.

These events were preceded by free business and entrepreneurship development workshops known as e-Kasi Business Regeneration & Business Plan Campaign in Soweto, Mamelodi, Tembisa, Alexandra and Vosloorus between August and October. Additional workshops will be held in Atteridgeville on November 7 and Tembisa on November 14.

Topics range from developing a successful business plan, approaching financial institutions for funding to sharing and exchanging ideas with other entrepreneurs and feature speakers from institutions, companies and organisations including the Industrial Development Cooperation, Gauteng Enterprise Propeller and the National Empowerment Fund.

l The forum, a voluntary organisation, promotes, inspires and grows entrepreneurship in black communities for poverty alleviation, job creation and economic growth.
