'She pushed him back to be stabbed'

ZONGEZILE Kimbie managed to flee from his attackers - but when he reached his home his wife pushed him back to be stabbed to death, the Vereeniging circuit court heard yesterday.

State witness Margaret Macholo told the court how the men continued to stab Kimbie until he collapsed in his yard.

"I was in my house fixing a DVD machine when I heard a noise coming from my neighbour's yard and went to investigate.

"I saw Kimbie opening his burglar door but when he opened the main door his wife Dikeledi pushed him outand the assailants further stabbed him until he fell to the ground."

She said she watched the whole incident through a gap in her yard's wall.

"I saw two men stabbing Kimbie with knives in his yard. The yard was well lit and I could see everything that was taking place since I was seven metres from them."

Macholo said she only recognised the men when they were running away from the scene.

She identified them as Nehemia Radifale Sithole and Kgauta Ndaba.

"I was scared to scream for help because I thought they would turn and stab me.

"After they had left I went inside my house and called my mother, who ran to Kimbie's house."

Kimbie was attacked on March 2 2006 and died later in hospital from multiple stab wounds.

Tankiso Kgasane, another witness, who was Dikeldi's tenant, told the court that she and her siblings were watching TV at about 8.15pm when Dikeledi arrived.

Kgasane said: "She (Dikeledi) ordered us to go to bed because there were men killing people on the streets.

"We went to bed and I was woken up by the noise in the yard and I saw Kimbie lying on the ground."

Sithole has since pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life imprisonment earlier this year for the murder of Kimbie.

He is expected to testify against Dikeledi.

Ndaba and Dikeledi have pleaded not guilty and are standing trial for her husband's murder.

It is alleged that Dikeledi had an extra-marital affair with Sithole and that the two lovers arranged with Ndaba to kill Kimbie.

The trial continues today.
