BOTH the Warriors and the Dolphins will be eager to overcome an unsettled start to their SuperSport Series cricket programmes when they meet in a four-day encounter in Port Elizabeth, starting today.

With the schedule having got under way almost a month ago, these two teams have each played only one game and they will be hoping for a full four days' cricket and a decent encounter in Port Elizabeth to get their challenge for the title on track.

The Warriors should have had two matches under their belts but for a pitch debacle in Benoni last weekend.

After a few overs on the opening morning, with the Warriors on 17 for one, the match was stopped because the conditions were deemed unplayable and the game was eventually abandoned.

A decision on this match has yet to be made public, but it's a situation that will not have helped the Warriors' cause, especially after, in their first game against the Highveld Lions, heavy overnight rain at Randjesfontein created too many damp areas in the bowlers' run-ups and the match was called off early on the final day.

The Dolphins are not much better off. Their only match so far, against the Titans in Durban at the beginning of the month was badly disrupted by rain, ending in a draw. And they had to kick their heels last weekend with a bye.

At least coach Graham Ford can look at some positive aspects from the Titans encounter, when they led on the first innings and were in control of proceedings when play ended on the final day.

The Warriors' fearsome pace and seam attack of Makhaya Ntini, Lonwabo Tsotsobe, Wayne Parnell and Rusty Theron could help them get over their lack of time in the middle.

Not surprisingly, the Warriors have named an unchanged squad for this weekend's encounter.

The Dolphins, though, have called up seam bowler Quinton Friend. Hard-hitting batsman Loots Bosman is over his knee injury and has also been included in the Dolphins squad. - Sapa
