Call to act on corrupt officials
THE standing committee on public accounts has expressed disappointment on the Limpopo department of education's failure to prevent corruption.
This after the provincial public watchdogyesterday found that the department had allowed 630 officials to do unauthorised business.
The committee said department's officials even colluded with service providers to milk state funds amounting to R270million.
"This is unacceptable, we recommend that action be taken against those officials," said committee chairperson Derrick Ngobeni
He made the remarks at Parliamentary village in Polokwane after questioning head of department of education Zwoitwaho Nevhutalu .
Ngobeni said employees who failed to declare their business interests had violated the Public Service Act.
He said employees had benefited from R99million worth of tenders.
