Former NPA bosses Bulelani Ngcuka and Vusi Pikoli were mentioned as Selebi pleaded not guilty to charges of corruption and defeating the ends of justice.
Selebi said his trial was a "malicious prosecution and an attempt to discredit me".
In his plea explanation Selebi claimed that Ngcuka and Pikoli had fabricated allegations against him because he knew of their alleged involvement in corrupt deals.
"The relationship with Ngcuka deteriorated substantially in the years preceding 2005 because I supported the view that the Scorpions acted beyond their mandate and that they should be dissolved and incorporated into the SAPS," he said.
He claimed that while Ngcuka was head of the National Prosecuting Authority he entered into a deal with Billy Rautenbach to protect him from prosecution on condition that he connected him to mining in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zimbabwe.
"Ngcuka approached Rautenbach's attorney suggesting a solution to his pending criminal investigation if he cooperated with him. The information is further that Ngcuka tried to extort a bribe from the attorney and that he was more interested in information regarding mining rights than the investigation," Selebi said.
Rautenbach is a former boss of Hyundai and is also a state witness in Selebi's case.
Selebi is accused of accepting bribes from the late mining magnate Brett Kebble, suspected drug trafficker Glenn Agliotti and Rautenbach in exchange for protection against shady business deals.
A warrant for Selebi's arrest was issued by Pikoli, who was later suspended and eventually fired.
Selebi claims that Pikoli solicited money from Kebble through his wife.
"Pikoli obtained material gratification through his wife from Kebble's company in an improper way," he said.
The trial continues today.
