Top airline in first flight from Dubai to Durban

WITH the 2010 Fifa World Cup around the corner, KwaZulu-Natal is due to pull off its biggest coup yet in bringing overseas tourists directly to the province.

Today, one of the world's fastest-growing airlines, Emirates Airline, flies directly into Durban International Airport from Dubai - in an inaugural flight before deciding on instituting a regular service to the province.

In the plane will be a slew of dignitaries from the Emirates Airline and United Arab Emirates government - as well as KwaZulu-Natal MEC for economic development and tourism Michael Mabuyakhulu.

Spokesperson for the department, Bheko Madlala, said that the direct flight to Durban by one of the world's major airlines is a first for KwaZulu-Natal as most of the international airlines fly directly into Gauteng's OR Tambo InternationalAirport.

"This means tourists and business people wanting to visit KwaZulu-Natal have to dig deep into their pockets to catch a connecting flight to Durban," Madlala said.
