England will now take on the defending champions New Zealand after the Kiwis routed Australia 31-7 in the semifinals on the same day.

SA coach Eric Sauls said yesterday he was very disappointed.

He saidfrom Japan that the South Africans did not play according to game plan. He added they gave away unnecessary ball possessions that cost them a place in the final.

South Africa suffered a blow when they reduced to 14 men. Rynhardt Elstadt was given marching orders after his dangerous tackle.

England staged a great comeback in the second period after trailing 8-11 at the break.

After taking a 23-21 lead in the 56th minute England never looked back. They slotted 17 points without a reply from the local side.
