Kitooke gets shot at title

UGANDAN fighter David "Bassaja" Kitooke will oppose Isaac "Golden Boy" Chilembe for the WBO Africa light heavyweight vacant title on Saturday night.

UGANDAN fighter David "Bassaja" Kitooke will oppose Isaac "Golden Boy" Chilembe for the WBO Africa light heavyweight vacant title on Saturday night.

Their pre-fight medical takes place today at Emperors Palace's Monsoon Lagoon in Johannesburg. Their fight will top Golden Gloves' six-bout-card which will be broadcast live on SuperSport from 8pm.

This tournament will be the first for promoter Rodney Berman at Graceland Casino in Mpumalanga which has been home for Branco Sports Productions and World Sport Promotions.

Chilembe, from Malawi, will make his debut under trainer Colin Nathan. He was scheduled to fight Douglas "Capone" Otieno but the Kenyan pulled out last week.

Nathan said the change of opponent disrupted their preparations tactically.

"Otieno was a left-hander, and now we must switch to an orthodox because Kitooke is a right-hander. But we are mature in getting things around," he vowed.

Chilembe boasts an eighth-round stoppage over Kitooke.

A bad cut above Kitooke's eye forced the stoppage. Their fight took place at Emperors Palace in April last year.

Trainer Harold Volbrecht said Kitooke had been begging him for a return match since that defeat.

"He will not only do better than in their first fight, but he may put the skids under the Golden Boy," he said.
