Residents of the 103-year- old Alexandra township can now enjoy the benefits of convenient shopping after the Pan Africa Shopping Centre was opened on Sunday.
The grand opening was attended by President Jacob Zuma, who was accompanied by Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane, Deputy Arts and Culture Minister Paul Mashatile and Deputy Police Minister Fikile Mbalula.
The mall has a fully integrated taxi rank. It is estimated that 1500 taxis frequent the area daily.
The mall has three levels for taxis, a public parking area and structured informal trading.
The mall is part of the Alex Renewal Project that aims to revitalise the township through environmental development, skills, education, housing and infrastructure. The mall is expected to create much-needed jobs in the area.
