Mpumalanga business has been asked to join further education and training colleges in partnerships to fight unemployment.

Chief executive of Ehlanzeni Further Education and Training College, Pat Zwane, said this at the first leg of a two-day academic seminar attended by education MEC Mmathulare Coleman, department head Raymond Tywakadi and representatives of further education and training colleges (FETC) at the Badplaas Aventura yesterday.

Zwane said that while FETC had the ability to produce skilled professionals, it still lacked the support of the business community.

Coleman challenged higher education institutions and the FETC to collaborate with each other to improve the standard of higher education.

"Since we do not have a university in our province, these colleges must come in handy."
