Isuzu goes big on looks and performance
The latest generation Isuzu KB isn't only better looking than the model it replaces, but has undergone serious changes in terms of standard equipment and ride quality.
Its off-road capability has also improved because of a stronger chassis and better ground clearance.
The KB range of bakkies don't need any introduction, as they have proved to be one of the most capable and reliable on the South African market. This is even more so with the latest generation KBs, with the new D-TEQ common rail turbo diesel engines.
Our used test model for this week was a 2008 Isuzu KB250 D-TEQ double cab 4x2. This bakkie has only done 3800km. The vehicle is as good as new, and it even smells new.
A double-cab bakkie is a great vehicle for everyday use, for the family and for going on holiday.
What makes the KB range so desirable is its great road manners, practicality and trustworthiness. When it comes to off-road capabilities, the Isuzu will conquer most terrains without a sweat. This is mainly because of the high ground clearance and strong chassis with diff-lock. This might not be the 4x4 version, but that doesn't mean you cannot take the vehicle off-road.
The interior of the new KB speaks of quality. It looks good and the controls are easy to use from a driver's position. The cabin not only feels spacious, but it really is. Legroom for passengers is more than sufficient, and three adults will sit comfortably in the rear seat.
The new range of D-TEQ turbo diesel engines is what will make its owner really happy. The 2,5litre turbo diesel is one of the most fuel-efficient bakkies in its segment. What makes this great is that the bakkie still delivers good performance. Power delivery stands at 85kW and 280Nm of torque, which gets transferred to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. We found driving the KB both on- and off-road a pleasurable experience.
Our model was equipped with smash-and-grab window tint, air conditioning, electric windows, height-adjustable power steering, driver's airbag, and front-loader CD player.
