A man got more than he bargained for when he had his tongue bitten off during an attempted rape.

The would-be rapist is recovering in hospital.

The incident happened in GaMarishane village near Jane Furse, in Limpopo, early on Saturday morning.

The man allegedly broke into a house in the village and found the woman asleep.

He allegedly drew a knife and threatened to stab the 25-year-old woman.

Police spokesman Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba said the woman pretended to submit to the man's sexual demands.

Before he could rape her the man insisted on her kissing him.

The woman bit a piece of his tongue off and it fell on the floor.

This made the man so angry that he drew a knife and stabbed the woman several times.

The woman was taken to an unidentified hospital where she is being treated for her injuries.

Ramatseba said the man would face charges of housebreaking, attempted rape and attempted murder.
