Former soccer ace Solomon Kedisaletse Mogomotsi died in an accident that also claimed the lives of seven relatives.
Mogomotsi, 54, was popularly known in football circles as "Spanner" or "Dizzy".
He was returning from his father-in-law's funeral in Dinokana near Zeerust in North West when the accident happened near Koster.
The vehicle he and his relatives were travelling in overturned after the driver lost control.
Mogomotsi attended school in Alexandra and then Meadowlands where he matriculated. He studied social sciences briefly at Fort Hare University in the 1970s and later completed his studies through Unisa where he graduated with a BA degree.
The outstanding footballer played for Alexandra Real Fighters before being snapped up by Orlando Pirates. He was in the same team with Jomo Sono, Shuffle Mokopane and Wonder Mjanqeka.
He later joined Witbank Black Aces where his career was cut short by a knee injury. Mogomotsi retired from professional football and worked for a bank.
His brother-in-law Uhuru Moiloa said: "At the time of his death Mogomotsi was self-employed, transporting school children."
Mogomotsi is survived by his wife Dipuo, son Veli and daughters Kgomotso and Tumi.
He will be buried tomorrow at West Park Cemetery. The procession will leave 2726 Empire Avenue, Protea South, at 7:30 am.
