Umqhele High School continued their dominance in school competitions with their 5-4 victory over Mehlokazulu on Saturday.
They clinched the KwaZulu- Natal provincial title of the Vodacom Under-16 Inter-school Challenge on a penalty shootout at Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu.
In the process they qualified for the national championship at the Safa Development Centre in Soweto from October 1 to 4.
The national champions will represent the country at the Schools World Cup in Turkey from April 3 to 13.
Umqhele whipped Bethamoya 3-0 in the semifinal while Mehlokazulu walloped Ezibukweni 7-2 in the other semifinal.
Umqhele and Mehlokazulu were locked at 1-all after full time, but Umqhele clinched the provincial title 5-4 on penalties.
Meanwhile, Rietrivier and Orion will represent Northern Cape in the Mille Under-14 national championships.
Rietrivier pipped AJ Ferreira in the first semifinal while Orion beat Port Nolloth 5-4 on penalties after they played to a 3-all draw in regulation time.
They will join Langa High and Leonard Ntshuntsha Primary from Mpumalanga in the national championships on September 26 to 30 at a venue to be decided.
