The late Brenda Fassie's former lover, actress Sindisiwe Khambule, is talented in her own right.
Khambule, who has been absent from our television screens for a while, has resurfaced in the stage show Maru.
Written by Bessie Head and adapted by Walter Chakela, the play is showing at the Windybrow Theatre in Johannesburg.
Khambule last acted on stage six years ago. She said she was excited to be back in theatre.
"It is good to be back on stage again. The last time I was on stage was in 2002, doing the same show. It is an honour for me to be approached to do the show again. It reminds me of where I started my acting career," Khambule said.
She said the show was based on a prescribed work for high school pupils in Grade 12.
"Maru is about discrimination, sexism and dehumanisation. I play one of the leading characters, Margaret Cadmore Junior."
Khambule has transformed herself since Fassie's death. She started with ground-breaking roles in Yizo Yizo, Backstage, Zone 14 and Tsotsi. Khambule will soon appear in The Lab and Mtunzini.com.
She became fodder for the gossip columnists when her whirlwind gay romance with Fassie became public knowledge several years ago.
