Miss Soweto, the beauty pageant that has unearthed many influential businesswomen, is not only celebrating its 30th anniversary but is calling on aspiring young women to step forward into the spotlight.

Young and ambitious women who want to celebrate their beauty as well as use the pageant as a stepping stone to fame and fortune are invited to register for Miss Soweto 2008. The much-anticipated pageant takes place on August 2.

Single girls who don't have children, and who are brilliant enough to make worthy ambassadors for the sprawling township, should hurry to Pick 'n Pay at the Maponya Mall in Soweto, where entry forms are available.

There is no doubt that the pageant is a powerful platform from which to launch a thriving business.

It has started off the likes of Basetsana Kumalo and Augustine Chuene as well as TV personalities such as Dorothy Hlabatau and Lerato Kganyago.

Wannabe beauty queens should hurry for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The closing date for the semifinals is July 19 at the Gold Reef City Casino Hotel from 7.30pm.

Miss Soweto 2008 stands to win a brand-new car and prizes to the value of R150000.

Tickets cost R120 at Computicket.
