Early childhood development (ECD) training and resources organisation Tree believes that all children should have access to quality, sustainable early childhood development so that they can develop to their full educational and personal potential.

Tree's vision is to see a nation that values and affirms young children and gives them opportunities to develop to their full potential, in line with their developmental rights and needs.

Its aim is to promote and support quality, sustainable, holistic ECD for children from birth to age seven in marginalised communities.

This is achieved through providing access to quality training in ECD for adults, who affect the lives of young children, and access to a range of resources for ECD.

It achieves this through:

l Formal, in-service, participatory ECD core and elective training courses falling under the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and accredited to the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), through the Education, Training and Development Practices, Sector Education and Training Authority (ETDP Seta).

These courses are run throughout KwaZulu-Natal and the adjacent Eastern Cape.

l Support, monitoring and assessment visits to practitioners (pre-school teachers) in their ECD sites (pre-school-creche ) on a regular basis.

lShort courses and workshops on a range of ECD topics that will improve services to children.

lWorking in communities with parents, caregivers, community members and organisations that affect the lives of children.

lProducing and selling toys, educational equipment and printed resource material to sustain Tree's programmes.

lTeaching and assisting people to develop skills to make educational equipment from waste and other materials.

lIndirectly providing opportunities for women's empowerment, income generation and community development.

lNetworking, partnerships and cooperation with government departments at local, provincial and national level, as well as other stakeholders, on all issues that affect children.

l Advocating the rights of young children in all possible forums.
