A good example
Even children are singing the praises of this model councillor.
His colleagues swear by his ideas and the elderly see him as a godsend.
They will not forget Moeketsi Paulus Moshodi. He helps feed the hungry and his councillors have followed his good example. Each has adopted a needy child.
As mayor of Ngwathe municipality Moshodi set the tone last year when he donated bicycles to farm children.
On Friday he unveiled the 2008-2009 budget that was like a dream to the poverty-stricken.
The audience in a huge marquee in Heilbron comprised mostly pensioners, the needy, disabled and municipal employees.
The R327 million budget will be used to make life more bearable for the needy, while also striving to provide houses, roads, clean water, electricity and other basic commodities.
"We are setting the pace," Moshodi said. "Our area is affected by poverty and unemployment. We can't fold our arms and watch people suffer."
He said churches, the police and ordinary people had joined hands in fighting poverty and unemployment.
"We are totally against corruption. It denies people the opportunity of enjoying the fruits of democracy.
"We have dismissed a few employees to send the message that we will not tolerate crime, especially not in our municipality," said Moshodi.
