Gauteng soccer administrator and development coach Mandla "Cheesa" Nkambule has died after a long illness.

Nkambule, who was in possession of a South African Football Association Level Two coaching certificate, died at OR Tambo Hospital in Boksburg on Friday night.

At the time of his death, he was the managing director of Wattford Seam Football Club, who campaign in the SAB Regional League.

Nkambule will be remembered for producing soccer greats like Pollen Ndlanya, Isaac Shai, Surprise Moriri, Godfrey Mlwane, Dingaan Masanabo and Collen Tlemo.

He was also the coach of Benoni Highlanders when they gained promotion from the amateurs to the then Zambuk League, which is now known as the First Division.

Kenneth "Conti" Kubheka, head of Safa coaching education, said they were saddened by Nkambule's death.

"Bra Cheesa was one of the most dedicated development coaches. He performed very well during our courses. Practically, he did well in Ekurhuleni.

"The man had an eye for talent. Some of his products like Trompies [Ndlanya], Tlemo and Shai have played for the national teams."

The family has turned to some of the former professional soccer players and local businesses in the area to help them bury Nkambule. - Ramatsiyi Moholoa
