Sugarcane killings case postponed

The case of two people charged with the murder of at least 11 women was postponed in the Umzinto magistrate's court yesterday.

Hlengiwe Nene faces 10 counts of murder and armed robbery, along with Thomazile Taki, the alleged mastermind behind the murders of the women whose badly decomposed bodies were discovered in sugarcane fields adjacent to Shayamoya township in KwaZulu-Natal.

The matter was postponed to May 9 as a high court date needed to be set down for trial.

Present at the case were Mdoni Municipality deputy mayor Bongani Khanyile and Vulamehlo Municipality speaker Thabani Dube.

ANC members from Umzinto were also seen in the courtroom. - Sapa
